BBQ Pit & Smoker Casters

Barbecue equipment and smokers often need to be moved or rolled around. When it comes to picking out casters for your BBQ pit, ask yourself how you will be using it. Will it be traveling with you to cook outs/contests or will it live on your patio? Consider the weight of your pit.

Depending on your usage, we'll recommend different casters.

Traveling BBQ Pits

If your BBQ pit will be traveling to cook offs, parks and other events, there are some things to consider.

First, consider where your BBQ pit will travel.

If you're primarily on concrete, polyurethane on iron is an excellent choice: capable of carrying high capacities while having a soft tread that assists in rolling over bumps and cracks.

If taking your BBQ pit off-road or on glass, there are two main options: pneumatic casters and carefree casters. They travel better on off road terrain, and increasing the size of the wheel will assist with this further. However, both these caster types are more limited in carrying capacity.

Pneumatic casters run the risk of the wheels going flat, but they are the best choice for rougher terrain and ease of movement.

The next best option for off-roading are carefree casters. These wheels do not use air at all, so sharp nails and puncturing does not damage the wheels. Although these wheels offer a great amount of cushion, they can flat spot if they sit still for too long. So we recommend these casters for lighter BBQ pits that are always on the go.

Backyard BBQ Pits

When it comes to BBQ pits that will live on your back patio, we recommend steel, phenolic, polyurethane on iron and plastic casters. These caster don't run the risk of flat spotting, making them an excellent choice for when you occasionally move your pit.

Steel, phenolic and poly on iron casters are capable of high capacities, but plastic has much lower capacity. In terms of durability, phenolic and plastic/polyolefin wheels resist outdoor conditions the best followed by steel and poly on iron wheels. Although poly on iron is the most susceptible to outdoor conditions, its major benefit is offering the best floor protection out of the options.

These 6 caster types excel in maneuverability, durability and cost, and can be picked out to manage the best experience in barbecuing and surviving their environment.
