Electricity Resistant Caster Wheels

In most cases, static electricity is harmless. At most you might feel a slight sting when you accidentally bump into someone. 

However, in some sensitive environments, the effect is much more dire. Static electricity can ruin electrical components or even ignite gases. In such cases, electricity resistant caster wheels are designed to help prevent such accidents.

Characteristics of Electricity Resistant Casters Wheels

Electricity resistant caster wheels tend to be made of some variation of the materials neoprene, thermoplastic rubber, polyurethane or nylon. These specific wheels are explicitly listed as electricity resistant & no regular thermoplastic rubber, polyurethane or nylon wheel will do.

These caster wheels use a tier system based on their resistance (measured in ohms): 

 Tiers Resistance level of wheels
Electrically conductive less than 10^4 ohms
Anti-static between 10^7 and 10^4 ohms
Electrostatic discharge more than 10^7 ohms

These higher-resistance wheels are better for reducing the conduction of static.

Overall, these wheels are non-marking with the exception of some neoprene wheels. 

  • Polyurethane & thermoplastic rubber provide floor protection and are excellent choices for white or rough floors as they offer cushioning during transit.
  • Nylon wheels are ideal for smooth surfaces, but may have a rougher ride during transit.

Capacity

The capacity of caster wheels varies depending on the material used. Neoprene and thermoplastic rubber have the lowest capacities, while nylon and polyurethane, particularly elastomer (another higher capacity polyurethane), provide mid to high capacity ranges.

Final Thoughts
