High Temperature Nylon Caster Wheels

Hot environments are among the toughest environments that casters can enter. Most caster wheels have a temperature limit of about 180°F and those that have higher temperature limits must have bearings and seals that are also rated to higher limits to avoid failure.

High temp nylon wheels are the go-to wheels for high temperatures that do not exceed 550°F.

High Temp Nylon Wheel Characteristics

High temp nylon wheels are incredibly dense wheels. They're more dense then phenolic and plastic wheels and tend to wear down slower in use.

When it comes to a special application like heat, sometimes your choices are limited. Nylon will not leave marks on the floor like some rubber wheels do, but it's not considered a floor protective wheel. Usually we recommend thermoplastic rubber or polyurethane for those who are conscious of their floors, but they are not heat resistant. A high temp rubber wheel is an alternative floor protective wheel, but it's typically limited to 250°F.

Just like plastic wheels and phenolic wheels, high temp nylon wheels are resistant to oil, grease, chemicals, cleaning solutions and most acids, making it an excellent choice for bakery racks and kitchen equipment. Often times, high temp nylon wheels are used as a replacement for fryers because splashing grease melts plastic wheels.

High temp nylon is typically rated around 475°F in constant temperatures and 550°F intermittently. If needed in an even hotter environment, steel wheels would be recommended.

Capacity

Nylon wheels in general are capable of high capacities and are a go to choice for small size casters that need to carry high capacities. Nylon has similar capacities to steel wheels.

How Well Does High Temp Nylon Roll?

Nylon wheels roll well on smooth surfaces. Since nylon is hard, it has no give in the tread and requires more effort to roll over rough surfaces. As a general rule, a larger diameter wheel will assist rolling over rough surfaces regardless of the composition.
